Savatribai Phule Women Self Help Group was formed on 9 Dec. 2013 under the Swarna Jayanti Self Employment Scheme (SJSY) in village Warni in Beed district of Maharashtra. It has 15 members and their meeting is held every Monday. The monthly saving is Rs. 100/-.
Beed is one of the districts in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. There are 11 talukas in Beed district. Warni village in ShirurKasar taluka of Beed district is inhabited by 780 families of three different castes and its population is 3846.
Savatribai Phule SHG was taken in the MSRLM fold in the year 2016. Five days training was held for its members covering different topics viz. concept of SHG, leadership, record keeping, bank linkage. The members also followed the Dashsuri principle and worked hard to establish their group. They realized the importance of personal financial saving and social issues of the village.
Other women in Warni village were inspired by the success of members of Savatri Phule SHG. Initially, under the guidance of members of Savatri Phule SHG four new SHGs were formed. Now there are 19 SHGs in Warni.
Savatribai Phule SHG have achieved internal lending of Rs. 1,66,000/- and availed bank linkage of Rs. 50,000/-. They raised additional sum of Rs. 60,000/- through community investment and started sustainable livelihood activities.
Four members started tailoring unit after purchasing sewing machines. 4 members now set up jointly enterprise activities.
In group all members are having their individual business activities such as one member started Paan (daily needs) shop, dairy activity, goat rearing, auto garage and flouring machine. These women are working hard to supplement their family income. The annual income increase from these activities is between Rs. 36,000 to Rs. 48,000/-. Apart from these four women members have availed loan to support education of their children.
To secure better future for their families all the members have availed life insurance under PM Jeevan Jyoti Insurance scheme. All members have opened bank accounts. ‘BetiBaachao, BetoPaadhao’ campaign all members have pledged to educate their daughters and marry them only after 18 years.
Savatribai Phule SHG is forefront in social activities along with other SHGs. They have organized health camps for women and immunization of children in the age upto 5. This has resulted in savings in average of 20- 30 % health expenditure of all SHGs. Focused efforts on treatment and quarterly testing of hemoglobin has increased Hb levels in the range of 9-11.
Members of Savatribai Phule SHG have encouraged other women to participate in Gramsabhas which plays constructive role in prioritizing the development activities in village. Participation in tree plantation drive is an annual feature for all the members.
Three illiterate members were taught to sign and able to read SHGs meeting books. Two members have benefited by Sanjay Gandhi Niradhay Yojana while one member has secured farm pond and another a well.
Over the years all members of Savtribai Phule Women SHG have worked consistently to gain acceptance in social domain of the village.
